Bamako International Conference Center

News

Mali will meet its development partners at a Roundtable Conference to be held on June 12th and 13th 2008 in Bamako. The objective of this important meeting scheduled at International Conference Centre is to relaunch dialogue between the Government and its partners at the highest level, around the implementation of the Plan to achieve the MDGs, the Strategic Framework for Growth and Poverty Reduction (SFGPR 2007-2011) and reform of the international system of aid to Mali.

The
SFGPR 2007-2011 which is part of unifying all sectored policies of Mali has been prepared according to a broad participatory process that lasted over a year. It has two main objectives: firstly to promote a strong annual growth of 7%, wealth generation and job creation through sectors of the national economy (agriculture, livestock, fisheries, agro-forestry, fruit and vegetables, mines and energy, tourism, culture and ICT), then improve the functioning of government by the prosecution, the consolidation and deepening of reforms in the areas of governance and improvement of social sectors (education, health and mainly the fight against HIV / AIDS).

The Bamako meeting will also examine the status of implementation of recommendations of the last Roundtable held in Geneva in March 2004. Exchanges will be held on the economy of Mali and the financing plan policies relating thereto. Donors will determine their future programs, their mode of intervention and their contribution to financing.

The analysis of results by sector shows that basic education, health, agriculture, the fight against hunger and energy absorb most of the adequate resources provided for achieving the MDGs. The second group of investments is represented by road infrastructure and transport, water and sanitation.

The Government of Mali plans to attract the attention of its partners on the need to provide financial resources to address the concerns raised. This would give hope to the people of Mali who seek to see poverty, hunger and disease vanquished.

The Millenium Development Goals are still achievable if we act now
